Professional Attire Collection

When you donate SUITS, don't forget the CHANGE.
Every $1 Suited for Change receives is returned three-fold to disadvantaged women. Power the gift from your closet with a gift from your wallet.

Suggested Financial Gift
$1 per suit with an individual attire  donation
$100 with an association or group drive
$500 with a corporate-sponsored drive

How do I drop off my invididual professional attire donation?

How do I coordinate and schedule a corporate or group drive?

What do you need?

What do you not accept?

What can I do with my designer and couture clothing, shoes and handbags?

Do you accept men's clothing?

Please consider a donation from your wallet with the donation from your closet. Certain costs like rent, insurance, salaries and supplies require cash. And distributing over $400,000 of professional attire each year requires infrastructure!

Individual Attire Donation Procedures

Suited for Change collects individual donations of women's professional clothing and accessories by appointment on the first Saturday of most months from 10 AM to 12 PM. Volunteers are available at street level to assist individual donors and provide tax receipts.

Suited for Change also accepts individual donations of 25 items or less on Wednesdays between 10 AM and 3 PM (with the exception of scheduled holidays and weather-related closures.) A rack is available to place your donation of 25 items or less at our suite on the 9th floor of 1010 Vermont Ave NW, Washington, DC 20005. Donation receipts will be available for your tax records.

Please be aware that parking can be difficult and it is recommended you bring a buddy to sit in your car while you deliver your donation on Wednesdays.

Large donations (more than 25 items) such as those sponsored by organization are scheduled at a mutually convenient time. To schedule a large clothing donation appointment or for more information, please telephone 202-293-0351 and select Extension #5, Mailbox #2, Professional Attire Drives, or send an e-mail to attire@suitedforchange.org. This e-mail address and message line are checked on Tuesdays-Thursdays, so please allow time for our staff to respond to your inquiry. Keep in mind the guidelines below to maximize our ability to serve clients and meet their needs.

Corporate and Group Professional Attire Drives

Suited for Change welcomes corporate and group professional attire drives. To register your drive, download the Corporate and Group Professional Attire Drive Registration Form, complete it and fax it to 202-293-0353. Within 3 business days, we will confirm your drive registration information and provide you a donor tax receipt for distribution to your drive participants.

There are many ways to make your Suited for Change attire drive fun, meaningful and easy. Ready-to-go flyers, which can be customized with your group’s information, then e-mailed or posted, are available for several drive options. Click on the title to see the ready-to-go ideas.

The Leg Up! Panty-Hose drive seeks new panty-hose in black, brown and taupe since 90% of the women SFC serves are African-American. As we cannot break packages, we recommend that packages contain no more than two pairs of hose.

It’s a Bling Thing focuses on collecting earrings, necklaces, bracelets, watches, etc. The donations for It’s a Bling Thing drive are easily transportable making this drive especially suited for associations and other organizations that meet occasionally.

Purses & Change incorporates and highlights the need for financial contributions for expenses that require cash, like rent, insurance, and staff. This drive asks for donations of handbags, including, what else but money! An amount can be set by the drive organizers to achieve a group financial goal. Similar to It’s a Bling Thing, Purses & Change is suitable for membership organizations where transporting items is a consideration.

Dress ### Plus-size Women is a great way to combine the resources of a corporation or organization with employee or member participation. The corporation/organization makes a donation equivalent to an agreed upon number of plus-size suits at a cost of $49 each and employees/members provide gently used accessories and new panty-hose to complete the outfits. Another use would be in offices where there are a few higher paid individuals who would purchase plus-size suits while staff accessorize with gently used items.

General professional attire drive is a general drive that can result in maximum contributions and significant effort on the part of organizers to collect, pre-sort, and deliver the donations.

Corporations/Organizations are welcome to customize their drive to their group’s interests as it intersects with Suited for Change’s client needs.

Your donations of designer and couture clothing, shoes and handbags are welcome!

Suited for Change welcomes designer and couture attire donations and works closely with local consignment stores to earn much needed money from these generous gifts. Please note that special tax rules apply when donated goods exceed $5,000. You may wish to consult your tax accountant and call in advance to ensure that proper procedures are followed to maximize your deduction.

Consigned labels include, but are not limited to:

  • Akris
  • Armani
  • Burberry
  • Chanel
  • Coach
  • Escada
  • Ferragamo
  • Fendi
  • Hermes
  • Gucci
  • Prada
  • St John
  • Valentino
  • Versace
