Fill our Hangers for $49 - Give a Suit and a Second Chance to Someone in Need

You can’t get a job if you don’t have an interview suit; but you can’t afford an interview suit if you don’t have a job. Since 1992, Suited for Change has been breaking down this barrier to employment for low-income women in the Washington, DC area by providing free professional attire and career education services. In the last 14 years, SFC has helped more than 12,000 women from the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia transition into the workforce. Today, the need for our services has never been greater. We need your help!

Unemployment and welfare rolls are climbing in our area for the first time in years. Jobs are shrinking while the competition for living wage employment is growing each day. Studies show that a professional appearance is a key factor in whether a woman gets a job or not. So, without the resources to present a professional appearance, low-income women are at a significant disadvantage in the job market regardless of their qualifications.

While Suited for Change is able to level the playing field for hundreds of clients each year by providing free suits for interviews, we continue to struggle to provide professional attire for a significant number of area women. Nearly 70% of the women we serve wear clothing in sizes 16 and larger. Unfortunately, only 10% of the wardrobe donations made by our generous supporters is in these sizes. As a result, our plus-sized clients sometimes have to go to job interviews wearing the clothing on their backs. Without our Fill our Hangers for $49 program, our plus size clients would face going to interviews in clothing inappropriate for job interviews. Sometimes, the only clothing they own is what they are wearing on their backs.

Each suit you purchase will allow a low-income woman to make a positive impression on a job interview and will provide her with the boost of confidence necessary to land a job…the first step in her road to financial independence!
