STEPPING UP

“Stepping Up” is Suited for Change’s client education program which offers a variety of tailor-made programs that provide skills and important information to help participants find jobs, keep them and advance professionally.

Stepping up…education

Starting Out
Starting Out is a 4-part workshop series specially designed to help women acquire the professional and life skills necessary to secure and maintain employment and to foster personal growth.  Two hour workshops provide education on interview techniques, professional attire, workplace etiquette, and professionalism.  Starting Out is offered at no charge to all current and former Suited for Change clients.

Junior League Power Hours in Partnership with Giant Foods

Suited for Change offers monthly Power Hours with discussion leaders from the Junior League of Washington and lunch provided by Giant Food. These sessions are the first Thursday of each month from 11:30 AM to 1 PM. Topic include stress management, healthy eating, conflict management and goal setting. Space is limited and reservations are required.

Stepping up...the toolbox

The Information Toolbox
Suited for Change’s Information Toolbox is comprised of a variety of workshops, covering important topics that are not presented in Starting Out. Workshop topics include Healthy Lifestyles, Rights and Responsibilities in the Workplace and Business Casual Dress, to name a few.  The workshops are designed to offer women information that is not only pertinent to getting and keeping a job, but also to becoming a successful, well-rounded woman.

Stepping up…skill-building

Xerox Training Program
Suited for Change in partnership with the Xerox Corporation offers women the opportunity to develop skills in the print industry.  This program is an intense 5-session workshop designed to help participants explore opportunities in the print market.  Participation in the training program does not guarantee employment, but offers participants additional job qualifications.

Stepping up…money management

Suited for Change offers workshops to assist women in becoming financially knowledgeable. The workshops are lead by financial professionals and include topics from basic money management to credit repair.

Suited for Change is grateful for the support of the Young & Emerging Accountants (YEA's) of the Greater Washington Society of CPA's for their volunteer presenters, FDIC for course materials, Capital One for their presenters, materials & sponsorship, and others who make this outreach possible.

SUITING

The attire program provides interview appropriate clothing to low-income women who are entering the job market. Women are referred to Suited for Change by over 150 approved referral partners.

Volunteer Personal Shoppers assist each woman in selecting two outfits complete with shoes, handbag and accessories to prepare her for her interviews, and, upon employment, three outfits for a full week’s wardrobe for her new job.

Nearly every woman reports that the “shopping experience” and personalized coaching increases their confidence and prepares them for work.

I’ll feel more confident going into an interview. I can present my best self and focus on the interview instead of worrying about what I’m wearing.”

Appearance is a big issue when interviewing. This is one less thing to worry or be stressed about.”

Before coming to Suited for Change, 80% of the women report not having appropriate attire and nearly half have skipped interviews or reporting for work for that very same reason.

Suited for Change means a whole lot because without them I wouldn’t be able to go on my interview.”

I don’t have to worry about buying a suit when I don’t have the money.”

To volunteer as a Personal Shopper, contact Carrie Shepard, Program Coordinator at program@suitedforchange.org or 202-293-0351 ext. 5.
