At our recent Suited to Celebrate event on June 4, 2026, we had the privilege of hearing from our client, Lynda, a woman whose courage, resilience, and authenticity touched every person in the room. Lynda shared her journey with honesty and strength, offering a powerful reminder of why our work matters and why community support is so essential.
When Lynda arrived in Washington, DC just over a year ago, she carried with her only one change of clothes and the weight of uncertainty. Like many women experiencing homelessness, she was navigating challenges while trying to rebuild her life. She knew she wanted to work, update her résumé, and regain her independence. She also knew she needed support to take those steps with confidence.
Through a referral from N Street Village, Lynda found her way to Suited for Change. What she discovered was more than professional attire. She found a community that saw her potential, honored her story, and welcomed her with warmth and dignity. As she shared during the event, her styling appointment felt less like a service and more like “a day out shopping with the girls.” Suited for Change always reminded her that she was not alone.

Lynda spoke about how the coaching she received helped her envision a new career path, ask the right questions, and rebuild her résumé with intention. She attended workshops, connected with other women, and found encouragement in a room full of peers who understood that circumstances do not define potential. Her journey reflects what becomes possible when women are given the tools, support, and belief they deserve.
Her words also highlighted an important truth at the heart of our mission. Homelessness is not only about the absence of housing. It is also about the loss of stability, confidence, and identity. In these moments, community becomes a lifeline. A warm welcome, a supportive conversation, or a well-fitting outfit can restore a sense of dignity and possibility.
We are deeply grateful to Lynda, not only for sharing her story, but for trusting us to be part of her journey. Her voice represents the strength, talent, and determination we see in every woman who walks through our doors. Each client brings her own story, her own dreams, and her own resilience. Each one reminds us why our work is so essential.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to ensuring that Suited for Change continues to be a place where women are encouraged, supported, and empowered to thrive. We will continue to open doors, create opportunities, and celebrate the remarkable women who make our mission meaningful.
