This beautiful note from Rocio, a friend of Suited for Change and CREW, reminds us why we do what we do. Her story and her words are a gift to every woman rebuilding her confidence and rediscovering her strength:
"Liz, To the Women and Team at Suited for Change,
These garments carry a story. Each dress, each suit, each pair of heels once held a version of me who refused to give up, even when life felt impossible.
These past years have carried me through unthinkable storms; an unjust arrest, the unraveling of trust, and the painful politics of speaking truth inside toxic systems. But what shaped me most wasn’t the harm, it was learning that integrity can be rebuilt, that freedom begins inside, and that women like us are never truly alone in the rebuilding.
Through that journey, I shed nearly eighty pounds; but more than the physical weight, I released the heaviness of fear and injustice. Every time I dressed for work, for court, or for a moment where I needed to stand tall, these clothes became my armor. They reminded me that strength and beauty can coexist, that grace can stand shoulder to shoulder with grit.
Today, as I pass them on to Suited for Change, I do so not as a donation but as a transfer of energy and confidence. My hope is that each woman who wears them feels that same quiet power, that reminder of her own worth, her own resilience, and her infinite possibility.
This gift is also a tribute to one extraordinary woman: Marianne Wilson, a true advocate for women and a guiding light in my journey. She embodies what happens when one person uses her influence and heart to lift others.
