“I can’t wait to go home and show my daughter my new clothes. I want to show her that Mommy is about to get everything back on track. Life is about to change for us.”
The past year of pandemic life has made finding employment extremely difficult. According to The Washington Post, a quarter of women say they are financially worse off a year into the pandemic. In these times of ongoing struggle, it is hard to stay positive, yet Renee came to the Suited for Change boutique with a smile on her face.
When Renee arrived for her suiting, she was eager to take any employment opportunity thrown her way. However, thanks to the positivity and encouragement of the volunteers at SFC, Renee found the confidence to aim higher.
From the moment Renee stepped out of the dressing room in her first outfit, she could hardly contain her excitement. Looking at herself in the mirror, she suddenly felt more confident and ready to take on the world. Whenever Renee found an outfit that she loved, she would run out of the dressing room and dance in the mirror.
With a huge smile on her face, Renee said “I feel good. I feel ready. It’s like the world is waiting for me.” Her energy was so contagious that by the end of her fitting, everyone at SFC was laughing and dancing along with her.
Renee found that as a result of SFC’s welcoming atmosphere, she felt less like a client and more like a friend.
As she became more and more comfortable, Renee shared some of the hardships she had faced within the past year. Ultimately, she had chosen to leave her job to help support the personal needs of her family. Now, she is ready to get back to work and continue to spread her positive energy with others.
By the end of her appointment, not only did Renee find two fabulous outfits complete with a handbag, but she also felt empowered in her ability to get back on track and become an example for her daughter. She could not wait to see her daughter’s reaction to her new outfits.

It is in these small moments that we are reminded of how something as simple as a pantsuit can transform one’s mindset. This is only the beginning of Renee’s professional journey and we cannot wait to see where it takes her!
